FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q.How much do you charge?
A.The fee will be determined by the services and options you would like for your event. If you call me or send an email to let me know the details, I will gladly and promptly get back to you with a quote. It's possible that you might find other deejays around who will play for less than my quote, some of them talented deejays. But keep in mind that the assurance of quality is often more important than a small savings. We've all been to a party or other event where there was a bad entertainer: while we don't usually remember the entertainer's name, we sure remember whose party it was.

Q.What makes your service special?
A.The assurance of fun, professionalism, and all around quality. You get a DJ with a huge musical library and an extensive knowledge of party music, one who acts and looks professional at all times, and one who will lead your guests in having a great evening. In addition, I listen to what you want, and then make the preparations needed to make your event uniquely fun for you and your guests. Months before your event you can be saying, "We've got the entertainment covered. That's one thing I know we don't have to worry about."

Q.Do you interact with the guests?
A.How much and to what extent I interact with guests is your choice. While I have had a few customers who preferred music only, the huge majority like to see their DJ encouraging and involving people on the dance floor. I do my best to stay away from those same old "cheesy" routines, but I look for opportunities to add things unexpected, fun, and memorable to the evening.

Q.Do you play for school dances and other youth events, like sweet 16 parties, graduation parties, and mitzvahs?
A.No. I prefer to concentrate on providing great service and entertainment for families and adults. I'd rather not risk "spreading myself too thin" by accepting any and all bookings available. I do, however, enjoy and use current popular music (edited versions) if it fits the host's preferences and the occasion.

Q.Do you have insurance?
A.I am fully insured with a $1,000,000 liability policy with Fireman's Fund Insurance Company acquired through my membership in the American DJ Association.

Q.Do you use a contract? And do you require a deposit?
A.I do use a contract which includes protections for my customers as well as for myself. If you would like to see a copy of the contract, let me know and I'll either send you a copy by email or your friendly postal worker. As to deposits, a deposit of one-half of the performance fee will reserve your date. The remainder of the fee will be due after the performance on the date of your event.

Q.Will you be my DJ, or will someone else be sent in your place?
A.If you book your event with Sunset Celebrations, I will be your DJ. I do not subcontract events to other DJs.

Q.Do you have back-up equipment?
A.I use only professional quality sound equipment from reliable companies like Mackie, Peavey, JBL, and Shure. Even so, I bring back-up equipment for all sound components to every event to ensure that the fun doesn't end unexpectedly.

Q.Do you have references?
A.Absolutely! I will gladly send you a list of names and contact information on request.

Q.Just what is shag music?
A.Contrary to what Austin Powers might think, shag music is music that lots of folks in the Carolinas and beyond enjoy for dancing the Carolina Shag. The shag is a dance related to the jitterbug, the bop, the lindy, and other swing dances, but more relaxed and laid back than the others. When done well, it looks very graceful and effortless. No matter how well it's done, it's still lots of fun! Much (but not all) of our Carolina beach music has a beat that is suitable for shagging. Shag music can also come from other musical styles like pop, blues, and even country. If you're interested in learning to shag, I can direct you to shag organizations and venues in your local area.
